Choosing a Rain Cloth

When it rains, it pours. When taken literally, people don't like to come into contact with water, especially if it is rain. It therefore means that humans have devised means and ways to keep themselves dry even when it is wet and rainy outside. There are complex and simple means to achieve this objective depending on the scope and extent of space under consideration. Houses and cars are fitted with roofs to solve this problem in a rather complex way. When we want to keep it simple and mobile, rain cloths are of absolute consideration. Rain cloths come in different names and can be called rain suit, rain coat or rain cloth depending on size and appearance.

Rain clothes are generally made using water proof material, mostly polyester. These clothes are often characterized with some specific features different from other cloths. In the most common terms, rain clothes are made to be light weight to ensure that they can easily fit in bags for portability. Another feature is that rain cloths are often oversize which allows them to be worn easily and quickly. The two mentioned characteristics are not cast on stone especially when the cloth under consideration is for doing heavy duty work, not just running to the classroom or the office from the car park. Rain cloths can either be hard shell or soft shell. Hard shell means that a cloth has a membrane designed to be waterproof while soft shell means that the membrane is missing but the cloth is still water proof. Rain cloths are in most cases designed to allow sweat and vapor from human bodies to escape. Rain suits, especially for fishermen and people working in frozen areas lack this feature due to the exposure of fishermen to prolonged periods of exposure in the rain.

To ensure comfort, rain clothes are made from fabric that is just that, comfortable. The wearer of the rain cloth must not be bruised by the cloth meaning that it must be soft on the inside. The fabric must allow movement of any degree despite the number of protective layers the cloth has. To allow movement, the cloths should have stretching capabilities while at the same time withstand abuse and be breathable. Be it for use by mountain hikers, researchers in the amazon, bikers, school going children, soldiers in active duty or practice, rescuers, or simple people out for shopping, rain cloths need to meet some standard and be comfortable, flexible breathable and above all, keep water out.
